President's Letter

As of this writing there has been no official decision announced on the future of Saab.

One of the great assets in the SCNA, Mr. Lester Ewing, has decided not to remain on the Board. Since the 2005 SOC he has been instrumental as President and Vice President in giving excellent guidance and ensuring we stayed on track in our endeavors to keep SCNA alive and well. Thanks Lester from the entire membership!

Congratulations to Jerry Danner as the 2009 recipient of the Larry “Stroker” Williams Spirit of Saab Award. You can find more information on Jerry’s nomination in the SOC09 coverage in Nines.

President's Letter

We were all saddened by the passing of Bob Sinclair. He was a gregarious man that enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. All in the Saab community that know of his accomplishments are keenly aware of his contributions to the brand and his lasting impression on the automobile industry. There were many occasions where Bob made presentations that were outstanding. There are two that are foremost in my mind.

As this issue of NINES is commemorating the Saab 99, I thought I would give my history with the first year of that model. I was stationed at Nha Trang AB Vietnam from 1966-67. I was going from there to Germany so I ordered a 67 96 V4 to be delivered in Frankfurt. While I was at the Frankfurt Saab HQ picking up my 96 V4, the gentleman in charge showed me a book full of 8x10 glossies of the new Saab 99. I fell in love with it right away and decided it would be my next Saab despite the fact I hadn’t driven my new 96 V4 yet.

Hopefully by the time this is in your hands we will know more about Saab’s future. I want all our friends that are in the Saab business to know that we are most hopeful about Saab surviving and a really credible car company emerging.
