Saab Owners’ Convention Track Event FAQ

Dominion Raceway, August 9, 2018

On the Thursday prior to Saab Owners’ Convention, Dominion Raceway has opened its doors to the SOC Attendees! Take your Saab on the track with paced touring laps of the 2 mile road course and NASCAR oval, with other optional events in the afternoon providing more track time for you and your Saab or superkarting. In addition, all registrants will also receive a buffet lunch while you are there!

The Grand Marshals of the event will be Mr. and Mrs. Don and Becky Knowles. Don Knowles is a 6-time SCCA National Champion, 3 times in Showroom Stock B Class (two of those in 1978 and 1979 driving a Saab 99), as well as Bob Akin award winner, the top honor in motorsports for amateur, vintage/historic or semi-professional drivers.

Optional Events:

Road Course Track Attack includes a 20 minute classroom session with both Don Knowles and a Dominion Raceway Track Instructor , as well as two 20 minute On Track sessions in your car. An additional fee of $50 applies.

DRSuperkarts Experience will consist of two on-track races on their custom karting track. Dominion Raceway will provide the helmet, head sock, neck brace, and kart. You provide the driving skill. An additional fee of $40 applies.

Agenda:

7:00am – Depart from Holiday Inn Solomons

9:00am – Arrival and Building Tours

9:30am – On Track Paced Touring Laps of 2 Mile Road Course and NASCAR Oval

10:30am – Setup for Trackday Group Photo

11:00am – Lunch at the 118 Bar and Grill, Guest Speaker: Don Knowles, followed by Live Music   until 2PM

12:00pm – Optional Events: Road Course Track Attack and DR Superkarts Experience

2:00pm – Depart for Solomons Island

4:00pm – Return to Holiday Inn Solomons

FAQ:

  • What do I get for the base fee of $69.00?
    • Included in the base fee are the paced touring laps (ability to drive your car around the 2 mile road course and 4/10 mi. NASCAR oval), as well as buffet lunch with speaker and live music.
  • Do I need to register in advance, or can I show up and pay?
    • This event is a part of Saab Owners’ Convention and must be purchased prior to the event at saabconvention.com. However, if space permits, there may be an opportunity to purchase the optional events (DR Superkarting and Road Course Track Attack) on the day of the event.
  • How old do I need to be to attend?
    • All drivers on the track must be 18 years of age or older. Passengers under the age of 16 are permitted for the paced touring laps, with parental guardian approval. However, for the Road Course Track Attack event, only one passenger over the age of 16 is permitted.
  • How old do I need to be to participate in the DR Superkarting?
    • You must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Are convertibles permitted for the track events?
    • As long as they are Saabs, absolutely.
  • If I am a driver, will I be required to present my driver’s license and car insurance?
    • A driver’s license is required. However, you will not need to bring your insurance certificate.
  • Do I need to wear traditional track attire? (i.e., helmet, long sleeves, and long pants?)
    • No, traditional track attire is not required, although closed-toe shoes are strongly recommended. For DR Superkarting, participants will be required to wear a helmet, although they will be available and included in the price of the event.
  • If I want to rent a helmet for the Road Course Track Attack event, will they be available?
    • Yes, for a cost of $10 you can rent a helmet.
  • Will gasoline be available onsite?
    • Yes, an automated credit/debit card only fuel pump is available. It dispenses Sunoco 98 and 100 Octane ethanol-free Unleaded, as well as 110 Octane Sunoco Racing Fuel. Pricing is based on current market prices.
  • What is on the menu for lunch?
    • The buffet will include the following:
      • grilled teriyaki chicken, roasted beef tips, “Bloody Mary” tilapia
      • lemon scented rice pilaf with Bahama blend vegetables
      • dinner rolls, double-chocolate brownies, and assorted cookies
      • choice of Pepsi products, iced tea, or bottled water
  • What happens if it rains on the day of the event?
    • The event will still occur, including the paced laps and lunch. However, the optional events will be cancelled. Refunds will be provided for the optional events, but not for the Saab Tour Event.
  • Can I bring my own drone and record my car on the track?
    • No. There will be an opportunity for a group photo, which will be made available to all registrants after the event.
