I owe my Saab addiction to my wife. Before we met, she’d been in a high speed accident with a tractor trailer and her Saab 900 saved her life. After we married in 1992, she bought a 1983 900S hatch. By 1995, we’d adopted our first child and switched over to a 1985 900S 4-door to make getting our daughters into the car seat easier. The Saab hook had been set.
In 2005, I bought a 1990 900 Turbo convertible for $1100 and began my “rolling restoration project”. That included a 5-speed conversion, a new interior, and other cosmetic surgery. In 2010, I totaled that car, but almost immediately found a rust-free cherry red 1988 900 Turbo convertible that was dirt cheap because it had a blown automatic transmission. Later I went off the deep end with a T5 conversion, type 8 primaries, a Quaife LSD, and many other upgrades. My only question when asked to sit for election to the board was, “can you hold this position if you only own one Saab”?
