President's Letter - November / December 2014

Well we did it! We FINALLY settled on a location and venue for the 2015 Saab Owners' Convention (SOC). SCNA Board member Daniel Cahill took the leadership challenge to poll various audiences in social media, gathering feedback, talking to SOC attendees and sponsors in Oregon, listening to local clubs in the Midwest and after countless hours considering the drive from all points north, south east and west, before he was ready to make the suggestion.

SOC 2015 will be held in Lexington, KY at the crossroads of I64 and I75 – well known for horse farms and horse racing, where all backroads lead to bourbon distilleries and offers scenic drives through gorgeous countryside. We are now at work negotiating with the host hotel for pricing and coordinating the details to execute the event. Mark your calendars now for August 13 – 16, 2015, the Griffin Gate Marriott will be out host property and has all of the features we wanted to host a terrific event.

There are numerous Saab events going on this fall, many are celebrating all of the new OSC’s that have been certified by ORIO to continue to provide service to our vehicles. If you have an event you would like SCNA to help support, feel free to contact us via any of the email addresses listed on the Club website. We are happy to help local clubs facilitate meetings and get togethers.

Happy Saabing!

PS: Follow the club on Facebook and SAABnet for more Convention details as they become available.

Another Convention has past and put down in the history books. Special thanks go out to the NWSOC and to the event organizers, Dan Morley, Phil and Calye Lacefield for their efforts in pulling together a great event. Once you have done one of these you really get an appreciation for all of the hard work and details that go into making a convention a success, super job!

But with every passing Convention comes change, mostly as a result of the Annual SCNA Board meeting. And this year is not unlike any other. I would like to welcome Ria Levine and Chris Grider as our newly elected standing board members along with Daniel Cahill who starts his second term on the Board. Luke Lewis moves into the role of Treasurer as Stephen Goldeberger is stepping down.

On behalf of the entire SCNA Board, I would like to thank Linnea Krajewski and Stephen for their years of service to support the Club. After 10 long years, Linnea has decided to leave the Board but will remain an active Club member and contributor to her column in NINES. Stephen is also stepping down from his role as Treasurer, a job he has done for the past 6 of his 8 years on the Board, and quite well I might add! Stephen will remain as an active board member to help shepherd the Club’s financials through the transition. We thank them both for all their contribution, hard work and at times, suffering, along with the fun!

Hopefully, by the time you are reading this, we have some positive news coming from NEVS and the production efforts in Sweden.

PS: Now is a great time to begin planning Fall driving tours and local jet-togethers!

There is still time to register for the 2014 Saab Owners Convention in Redmond, OR August 7 – 10. Peter Bäckström, Curator of the Saab Museum in Tröllhättan and Erik Carlsson are confirmed attendees and just a few of the featured guests that the organizers have planned for this year’s event.

Hotel information and registration details can be found online at SOC Website. There is also a mail-in registration form located in this issue of NINES on page 27.

Don’t forget to send in your ballot (also located in this issue of NINES on page 6) for the upcoming Board elections. We have several changes this year and look forward to planning more events and other activities that we are discussing internally to reach out to various local club and local events.

Just after the Convention, on August 24th, there will be the 15th Annual Swedish Car Day at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA – this is a perennial favorite that draws attendees from all around New England, New York and into Pennsylvania.

Stay tuned for a few other SCNA sponsored events to be scheduled as we enter the fall months.

See everyone in Redmond in a few short weeks!

Go West this summer! The Saab Owners' Convention 2014 is coming August 7 -10 to Redmond, Oregon.

Now is a great time to go online and register for the Convention at the Saab Convention Website, then map out the best route for you and your friends to caravan to Bend. A wonderful time is being planned in partnership with our friends in the NWSOC.

And while you are at the Convention, be sure to set aside some time from all the fun and parking lot revelry to attend the SCNA Annual Board Meeting and Elections. Thank you to all of the inquiries received thus far for filling a few vacant board seats this year. As always, you can provide your votes through the mail which will be tabulated during the annual meeting. The ballot will be available in the next issue of NINES.

One more thing—whether it be your local Cars & Coffee or the Convention itself, remember that many of the advertisers here in NINES supporting our Club also provide some great products to keep your Saab looking great all summer long.

Here’s to a terrific beginning to Summer!

PS: Local Clubs - Get some friends together and go for a ride or have a car wash, it’s a great way to bring together fellow enthusiasts. The other board members and I are discussing some ways to help facilitate that, feel free to message me for details.
