SCNA News January/February 2009

President's Letter

A very happy New Year to our members and other Saab aficionados Worldwide!

This last Thanksgiving season in America I was reminded of all we have to be grateful for. From a club view, we are always thankful for those who continually support us. In particular, the Saab dealers, Indies and other Saab related businesses that provide generous discounts for our members, those who support our journal Nines through advertising; and, those who sponsor our Saab Owners’ Conventions. Saab USA is of course at the top of the list. Our hope is that we all have a prosperous and healthy New Year!

Reflecting on the main activity of SCNA – the annual Saab Owners’ Convention, I am very proud of the entire SCNA team that participated in the preparation and accomplishment of SOC08. The books for SOC08 are closed and according to our new Treasurer, Stephen Goldberger, we are within a few dollars of breaking even. This is good news for our membership. When the SCNA Board decided to take control of SOCs at SOC06 it was with the full intent of making SOCs a break even venture and we have done extremely well in attaining that goal. Thanks again to all who made SOC08 a success.

As we head into the New Year, I would remind the membership that we need your help in keeping the Member Discount Program alive and well.

I attempt to keep the Member Dealer list on the website current. Seth Bengelsdorf in turn updates the info in Nines. To do this we need your feedback on info that is out-of-date. If you would like to assist in adding SCNA discount facilities, please contact me and I will send you a letter to present to them.

For those who live west of the Mississippi we have a great event coming your way this year (and all those east of the Mississippi and across the great ponds that surround North America). The Rocky Mountain Saab Club is doing SOC09 the planning for which is very far along under the Chairmanship of Jerry Danner. There is more information in this issue as well as what is on their website.

Happy New Year,

Ian Glenday
President, SCNA
