Greetings, SCNA Members!
I am proud to introduce to you the most recent member of my automotive stable. I recently purchased a silver 1997 Saab 900 SE Talladega 5-door in Silver Metallic. Since we have decided to celebrate the 20th and 30th anniversary of the Saab endurance challenges in 1986 and in 1996, I thought that it was only fitting for me to arrive in a car that best fits the venue. I had been looking on line for the right car when I located this well preserved 141k 5-speed at Kingsway Motors in Fairfield, CT. As soon as I spoke to James, I knew that he was someone who knew and appreciated Saab vehicles. They worked with me on a fair price and even arranged for a driver to deliver the car to Boston. I have driven it a few hundred miles and I am pleased to report that it looks and runs beautifully. I can’t wait to drive it down to Atlanta for SOC.
As I write this letter, I have so many exciting things to report about our plans for the upcoming convention in August 4-7. In just a few weeks, a few of our board members will join me in visiting the Stone Mountain resort for our site visit. We will finalize the logistics of SOC and get the numbers ready for registration to open in early April. As part of our site visit, we will be talking with representatives from the Talladega Superspeedway to determine the best way for us to celebrate this important endurance milestone. Make sure to check out our web site in the upcoming weeks for more information about Talladega and about the Saab endurance challenges.
In January, we sent out over 300 letters to official Saab Service Centers and many independent shops as well. We have already had some commitments for sponsors, and this year we hope to welcome some new independent shops in addition to our favorite parts suppliers and web sites. Consider talking to your service center about sponsoring SOC 16. As President, one of my goals is to increase our ability to communicate to Saab shops across the country, and we have done that by compiling one of the most extensive lists of Saab repair facilities anywhere. SCNA can be the network that brings together Saab drivers with the parts and service centers that will keep their cars running for many years.
Finally, make sure to check this issue for a story about the only Saab dealer in Hawaii. Let’s just say we may have located the last few brand new 2011 Saabs still available for sale in the United States. Now, if only there was way to drive there…
As always, I welcome your feedback and comments. Please email me at
